Our cancer rehabilitation sessions can benefit you physically, mentally and emotionally, before, during and after treatment

One lady is her 60s had had one lung removed. She was determined to get back to full fitness, and was diligent with her Pilates, restorative yoga and meditation. These sessions helped open up her chest, rebuild her posture and regain her stamina. After five years in remission, her goal was to walk to the top of a 12,000-foot peak. The look on her face at the summit, as she stretched out her arms to embrace not only the view but also her achievement, was truly wonderful for us all to see.”

Being diagnosed with cancer and the subsequent chemo or radiotherapy treatment can make you feel as though your life is on hold, that there is little or no quality to it, and that there is nothing that you can do that is positive.

However, this is not the case, and our specialist cancer rehabilitation sessions seek to maximise the good that you can do – and that can be done to you – in this challenging time.

Before

Before your treatment, we can work to prepare your body, so that your recovery is faster and you suffer fewer side-effects. Exercises can enhance your balance, your stamina and your bone density (which is particularly important for chemotherapy.) All of this will give you greater confidence, as well as making day-to-day activities much more manageable.

During

Let us stress that the exercises that we offer are completely safe for you during your treatment. They will simply make the treatment more effective by increasing blood flow, opening up your pathways to allow the treatment to take deeper effect. Breathwork and meditation will also help you to keep calm during the actual treatment.

All exercise is geared to how you feel: fatigue is a huge side-effect of cancer treatment, but if you can manage even very light exercise, it can help in so many ways. Specifically, if you are on hormone treatment, exercise can limit bone and weight loss. In general, exercise helps your body to produce more healing chemicals and correct any imbalances.

Exercise also of course alleviates anxiety and stress, making you feel, “I am doing something positive for myself.”

After

After your treatment, exercise will speed your recovery, helping you to regain your former strength and fitness. It is a great way of banishing anxiety and focusing in on your renewed quality of life.

One of our newest team members, Lou-Rose, is a fully qualified cancer rehabilitation specialist. Her cancer rehabilitation sessions can be one-to-one or group. They may involve Pilates and yoga, light weights, and the bike or treadmill. But whatever they include, they are tailored to your condition, your treatment and your challenges. We simply want to help you on your personal cancer journey, preparing your body, relaxing your mind and enhancing your emotions – for the best outcome possible.

If you or someone you know is facing a journey with cancer, please consider contacting us to discuss how our cancer rehabilitation offering could be of benefit. We are happy to have an in-depth conversation to understand your challenges and goals – and to see, sincerely, if we can help.
